On October 9th 2009, residents of the Clementsville area in Casey County experienced a horrific event. An EF 2 tornado was confirmed by the National Weather Service in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department was initially put on standby to provide specialized equipment such as rope rescue and search and rescue equipment. Casey County dispatched then activated the BAVFD and advised our units to respond to the Command Post. BF-1 with Rope Rescue 1 responded with four firefighters.
Breeding AVFD then requested assistance from the Marrowbone-West Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department for a portable light tower and generator.
The BAVFD & MWCVFD assisted the Casey County Emergency Management in providing the light tower and a generator to provide electric to the mobile Command Post.
The BAVFD loaned quartz lights to the Casey County Emergency Management.
The pictures below illustrate the destruction that the tornado left. The pictures were taken on October 10th 2009 by Daniel Wilson, Weather Specialist with the BAVFD.
